The Subclass 114 Aged Dependent Relative Visa offers a pathway for elderly, financially dependent relatives of settled Australian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens to permanently live in Australia. This visa is for applicants who are of Australian pension age, do not have a partner, and are genuinely reliant on their Australian relative for daily living needs.

  1. Sponsorship by an Eligible Relative
    The applicant must be sponsored by a relative who is:

    • An Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen

    • Settled in Australia

    • Able and willing to provide financial and emotional support

    Eligible relatives include:

    • Children or stepchildren

    • Siblings, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, or step equivalents

    • Grandchildren or grandparents

  2. Financial Dependency
    The aged applicant must demonstrate that they have been entirely or substantially dependent on the sponsoring relative for basic needs (food, shelter, clothing) for at least 3 years before applying.

  3. Unpartnered Status
    The applicant must not be married or in a de facto relationship at the time of application.

  4. Balance of Family Test
    At least half of the applicant’s children must be settled in Australia as citizens or permanent residents.

  5. No Subclass 870 Visa
    The applicant must not currently hold or have applied for a Subclass 870 Sponsored Parent (Temporary) visa.

  6. Health & Character Checks
    The applicant must pass required health and character assessments.

  7. Assurance of Support
    An Assurance of Support (AoS) may be required before the visa is granted to ensure the applicant does not rely on public funds.
