The Dependent Child Visa (Subclass 445) is a temporary visa that allows dependent children of visa applicants to stay in Australia while the parent’s permanent Partner Visa (Subclass 801 or 100) is being processed. This visa ensures children can reside with their parent(s) in Australia during the wait for permanent residency.

Parent’s Visa Status
The child must be dependent on a parent who holds one of the following:
Partner (Provisional) Visa Subclass 309
Partner (Temporary) Visa Subclass 820
Dependent Child Visa Subclass 445
Age and Dependency
The child must be under 18 years old, or
If 18 or older, they must be financially dependent on the parent.
Sponsorship
The sponsor must be the same individual who sponsored the parent’s partner visa application.
Sponsorship must be approved by the Department of Home Affairs.
Visa Conditions
The child must not hold a visa with a “No Further Stay” condition.
Once the 445 visa is granted, the child must be added to the parent’s permanent partner visa application.
Exception: Australian Citizenship by Descent
A child born outside Australia to at least one Australian citizen parent may be eligible to apply for citizenship by descent instead of this visa.
Health and character assessments apply as part of the visa process.
Evidence of relationship, dependency, and custody arrangements may be required.
